The other one
While skippin' through the lily fields,
I came across an empty space.
It trembled and exploded;
left a bus stop in its place.
The bus came by and I got on;
that's when it all began.
There was Cowboy Neal at the wheel
of the bus to never-never land.

Further for further's sake !
One of my future, furthure, projects is to write an article on the phenomenon of the bus in post-WW2 youth culture. Obviously, this semi-scientific piece of prose is to take in Kesey's 1964 road trip ("Are you on or off the bus?"), but will also take on board Cliff Richard's 1963 outing "Summer Holiday" ("We're all going on a summer holiday"). Interestingly, Cliff & The Shadows predate Ken & The Pranksters by a year. Could it be that Ken was inspired after seeing Cliff at the movies? ("We've seen it in the movies, now let's see if it's true" ... "to make our dreams come true"). Obviously, we can't leave out Kerouac's On The Road in this context, but then he was mostly travelling in souped-up cars - although there was the odd Greyhound bus coming by. Is that where it all began? To be continued, no doubt.
Signing off from nether-nether-land, wishing I could be there with you in that paradise by the sea,
Art
